383 240z
Great choice on your motor the zz4 motor is internaly balanced if your using the JTR mounts mind the clearance on the steering gear I think the max size is 7.25" please use an installer for the new balancer Do not beat it on with a hammer!! (I've seen to many good motors destroyed by this) you will not need to rebalance your motor after the swap (only 383 strokers and 400 are external balanced) ------------------ rx7260z@yahoo.com Speed Power Performance& Style. John Scott
Rob, didn't you use the smaller 6.25 Fluidamper on your ZZ4? JS

DavyZ
Adam, get a harmonic damper install/removal kit from Summit Racing--they have one somewhere in their catalog in addition to low price dampers. Great choice in an engine. It's sooo good, it'll drive you MAD! ...sorry, couldn't resist! David
madmanadam
Hello, all This might have been asked before, I did a search did not find what I was looking for. I just bought a ZZ4 Crate engine. Can I just change out the damper or do I need to balance? Any help would be great. What is this engine internal or external balanced? Thanks again Adam Soon to be on the road again 2yrs waiting and changing.
madmanadam
Thanks, picked up the motor last night. $3419 total from Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center in Tx. Shipped to Wa. Not bad. The engine even came with plugs. I just cant wait to hear it run. Another Question will my block hugger (2001) headers still work with this engine? Soon go zoom and fun in the sun in shacky washington. Thanks again will order a puller and damper
Guest Anonymous
Your blockhugger headers will bolt up, but unless they are specifically designed to fit GM corvette "D" shaped ports, they will probably block the top of the "D" shaped port and restrict exhaust flow. You may be able to grind off enough metal to match the port shape, but you would be better off buying a new set from Sanderson or Heddman-they both make block hugger headers for "D" port heads. ------------------ Tony 1972 240Z w/ZZ430/T56/GTO body kit
Mike Mileski
The balancer that came stock on my ZZ engine clears with no problems. I think the ports on the aluminum heads on this engine are only a tenth of an inch higher than other Chevy heads, so restrictions, if any, will be minimal. madmanadam
Are you sure the balancer will fit? I measured and it is 8". JTR 7.25 is max I thought. Thanks
