Guest daveoh
Hi all, I took delivery on a stock L28 rebuild from Nissan and with the engine on the stand I thought I'd drop in a more aggressive cam. I've spent the day trolling posts and the rest of the internet and gathered specs from webcamshafts.com and motorsport. Now that I have the options, I'm left wondering where the original cam sits relative to all the other options available. Does anyone know what the lift and duration specs are on the cam that Nissan sent me? It's a P79 head. I'm leaning towards the webcamshafts .488 lift and 262 duration cam, but that's just based on scanning the tables and descriptions. I want something that isn't painful to drive around town, but I intend to track this car every chance I can. Also, I won't be racing in competition. Thanks, David O. Bernardd
look here for stock cam specs http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/cam/index.htm
JMortensen
.488/262 will be driveable in town with no trouble at all. Stock has already been answered, but another way of saying it is WAY TOO SMALL/NOT NEARLY ENOUGH.

What induction system are you running, carbs, aftermarket EFI, OE EFI? If you are running the Datsun EFI, LEAVE the stock cam in the engine as that will deliver the BEST performance with the least compromise for the OE EFI. I’ve tuned and tuned many a Z car over the many years with OE EFI and aftermarket cams, and when going to back to the OE Cam, performance was better, (this only applies to the OE EIF). But if you are running aftermarket EFI or carbs, hands down, an aftermarket cam will deliver better performance. Good luck…
JMortensen
That's a good point BRAAP. I tend to assume that people aren't running the crappy stock FI anymore.
Guest daveoh
Oops - I'll be running triple mikuni PH44's. I'm actually dropping the L28 into a 1972 240. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks, DJO
