AKWIKZ
Guys, It looks as though I am selling my '71 Skyline. While I'm waiting for the deposit, I have a good feeling all will come together. What I am pondering at this point is what to do afterwards. I have narrowed it down to two things right now. One is to pick up a completely pristine KGC10 to replace this one. My thoughts on this are that I can then take the engine from the new one, most likely a nice 2.8 or 3.0 with trips, and drop it into the Kenmeri and put the 3.1 N/A RB into the new KGC10. This would be fairly affordable at around $18k-$20k all told. The second idea is to buy an R32 GT-R for a race car. I live 10 minutes away from a large motorsports complex, so keep this in mind. The R32 would be one of the many non-federalized cars around these days. It would not be street driven at all. Track only. Going this route, a good R32 base would run about $10k. Leaving me a fair amount of money to improve upon the car. This would leave me to put the 3.1 RB into the Kenmeri. So, please let me know your opinions. Thanks Brian
greenmonster80
Brian, Curious to hear who is getting the KGC10. Let me know, if the buyer is comfortable with that. As for your decision...I like the idea of a track built R32. As long as not drag racing...The RB into the KGC110 is fairly common place so it would nice without doing to much quess work. Not to mention more modern. Besides the younger crowd at the car shows would really be giddy over a 3.1 Rb...
hotimport
Congrats on sale Brian! Still wondering who would be that lucky guy getting it. It didnt work out for me since i had this 280z that i was going to sell in meant time but it didnt work as fast as i planned so now i am just going to build an RB Z car. One day il get KGC10 for my self. I think you have it pretty much figured out on what you want. Since the Hakosukas would be pretty expensive in pristine condition to find and then you would need to grab a decent RB motor for a rebuild not to mention that all the footwork would need to be setup for track. I think that KGC10 would be a better choice in youre project/race car/street car. Since the R32 would be i deal weapon of choice for track use and the money. If you could get one as cheap as you say you can. Personally i would love to see you with a Red hakosuka and an RB31 rather then a bit exhausted R32. In conclusion, i would say go with youre budget and pursuit youre dream car. Good Luck!!! Mike
EMWHYR0HEN
I like both ideas, but nothing beats 4WD and two turbos, esp. for a track car! R32 all the way. By the way, do you have any dyno numbers or est. on how much power your RB31DE is putting out? im considering swapping block somehere down the road.... greenmonster80
Brian, What is the final outcome? Saw another 71 kgc10 on ebay and got me thinking about your sale again...
AKWIKZ
I spoke with the seller of that one on e-bay this afternoon. It looks to be pretty clean but he is asking $30k for it. Far too much for what it is. While it is nice, there are signs of rust in the rockers if you look closely at the pics. Any car over $25k would need to be perfect, in all ways. This is most likely a good, $18k-$20k car. At $30k he is just trying to make a killing off of it's rarity. As for me, I am still awaiting the rest of the money for mine. I received the deposit a while back so I think things are still a go. We expected it would be mid December before everything was done anyway. I am still, obviously, looking at other cars to replace it. It may be some time before I do though. Right now I am seriously thinking about using some of the proceeds to fully build the Kenmeri. All it really needs is a little bit of bodywork and a new paint job. I have almost all of the GT-R clone parts already here, along with the new wheels. I will probably gut the interior, replace the rear seat with aluminum sheet, and install the Sparcos I have. If I go this route, I will still be on the lookout to replace the Hakosuka, but in no real hurry. Brian
greenmonster80
Sounds like you got a plan going. Hope the car is going to someone who appreciates what he is getting. I didn't know the ebay car had a asking price of $30,000. I bit high considering it is just a plain ole L28. Even back in Japan were prices for these are higher that is still too much in my opinion. (3 times the price)
