RacerX
I know I've considered motorcycle engines as a possible engine swap - but only for a brief moment. Yet, there seems to be hybrids of this sort starting to pop up. They've probably been around for a while. It is only recently that I've stumbled across them. What do you think of the possibilities? I think some of these are incredible!! Mr.INSANE
Basicly Pros: Lightest Motor Possible Lots of extra room No need to dry sump most of the time High Revving Cons: Weak Torque (High Revving ) Weak Throttle response (At High Hp) Transmission Mounting
Kennysgreen280zt
Weak clutch as well, for the wieght of a car anyways I like the idea of say a hyabusa powered classic mini, or lotus7 clone, or a smart car, but anything heavier would be no fun. randy 77zt
most of these kit cars are around 1000 lbs .it takes torque to move weight.an early 240 is about 2200 lbs.there is a local guy with a lotus 7 replica with a honda s2000 powertrain in it.gossip has it that car will run 0-60 in under 4 seconds.early light 240 would work good with nissan sr20det or honda s2000 engine.my 77 with 82 turbo engine and a/c weighs 2650. RacerX
I spoke with the guy who built the Hayabusa powered car. He told me he was the first customer to purchase the Hayabusa V8 engine - he did not build the engine - he engineered and built the vehicle. He informed me he paid $20,000 for the motor alone! It cost money to be different! RacerX
RacerX
Which one do you think is faster?!?! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/92354/dodge_viper_vs_suzuki_hayabusa/
olie05
Almost all FSAE cars are motorcycle powered. We are using a CBR 600 f4i engine. Its a little easier to build a car around the engine rather than trying to stick the motorcycle engine into an existing car. For example the 600 f4i engine shares the crankcase with the transmission, and the things that hold the main bearings in place is connected to the thing that holds the tranny shafts in place. Swapping to a longitudinal tranny would be alot of work.
Lewis Maudlin
Which one do you think is faster?!?! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/92354/dodge_viper_vs_suzuki_hayabusa/ 177 mph om the street is a bad idea
veritech-z
I bet that a motorcycle engine would work really well in one of those early honda CVCC civic hatchbacks, the one that only had a 600cc engine to start with. You'd hurt some people's feelings in a car like that! You could get one of those V-tec V4 engines they use on some of the Honda bikes, that would really freak some people out! "V-4, don't you mean inline 4?" and you could be like: "Oh gee, the guy told me it was a V-4....I don't know anything about that stuff, wanna race?"
