Intake manifold suggestions?

Hi, I have searched about manifold choices and read the thread about the comparisons of the intake manifolds available for the vg30e but havent' found much information about the Maxima variable intake manifold vs. Pathfinder manifold. I'm asking this because a friend of mine with an 84 300zx is about to swap out his Maxima variable manifold and replace it with a Pathfinder manifold with that is port matched with a 65mm Ford throttle body. Theoreotically, while the Maxima has two butterflies it still has long runners to suck air through before air actually gets to it's destination while the Pathfinder's runners are almost as large as the Maxima's and have less area to travel through correct? Can anyone back me up on this theory or can provide any information on which one has a higher flowrate (stock for stock of course). Thanks in advance.

The maxima intake is not a varible intake. It doesnt have nearly the effect a real VI manifold has.

The pathfinder should be a better intake, but I think it interfears with the hood so check clearance. As for power, I believe it has more bottom end, but I havent looked at one in a while so I may be wrong. Ill dig up the links from the maxima website i frequent and post them here.

he doesnt talk about the maxima intake manifold that this post is refering to in that thread you posted. peace.

Correct, that thread only talks about the early Maxima manifold, the one shown in the pictures I posted is the variable intake manifold, anyone else with the variable intake manifold have any input? Thanks in advance.:-D

The valve is that manifold is called a "power valve". Its basically two very small valves between the two different sections of the manifold. Its not a variable manifold, not in the sense of having two different runner lengths.

Supposedly the Pathfinder manifold is one of the best flowing VG manifolds. The 3rd gen Maxima manifold doesn't flow very evenly and the dual throttle body is kind of limiting.

On that power valve, if you're planning on going with boost you'll want to disable it. With boost it seems to cause a loss of power.

Thanks, my theory was correct then, the long runners do look restrictive compared to the Pathfinder manifold.
