Fooling the IAT...

Ok folks... I've searched.... and searched... nada! All I get was

threads that argue as to where to relocate IATs.

Anyway, I'd like to ask if any of y'all have tried to fool our IAT to gain

more HP?

Please don't flame. I am seeing a lot of products out there for other

cars fooling the IAT and I'd like guidance from this great forum!

I pretty much know about how our stock ECCS equipped cars work

but definitely no knowledge on more detailed workings of the electronics

brain. Like... how much resistance is used to fool the ECU regarding

the IAT, if you can fool it.

Question then:

Does this really work? Does the ECU really pump more fuel and advance

the timing? I'm thinking yes, but of course I'd like to ask you gurus

out there who knows how the ECU's work more than I do.

Thanx.

What application?

If you're speaking of a 280Z, yes you can fool it into delivering more fuel (but not timing). Its 'control' is limited though. A better route, is to fool the coolant temp sensor. Adding resistance will give you a substantial increase in fuel quantity. Also, any increase will be very linear.

Later cars are a bit trickier, because they are closed loop and continually learning. Richen things up a bit, and the ECM will eventually lean it back.

Now that you mention it, you're right rontyler!

The O2 Sensor will send back a rich signal after you try and fool

the IAT and then the ECU does it's adjustments!

Thanx for the reply. Also, the ECCS question is about my 280ZX and

that the ECCS did not come into play until then (after the 280z). I got an original ECCS manual from Datsun and that is where I get info on all the 13 sensors that the 280ZX's uses and think of ways to manipulate it.

The ECCS uses 13 sensors to manage timing, fuel and the emissions!
