fiberglass mold making

What are some good ways to make a mold for fiberglass when you dont have a exsisting part to work with? I want to make a custom rear area for my z. I would like some ways to build a frame to fiberglass without adding to much weight. I have heard of people using chicken wire but i can't figure out how they would do it. Pictures would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again guys and gals

if you use chicken wire, just form it (cause it moves real easy) hook it together with wire, then once you have the shape, cover both sides with some mat. then smooth and paint, you can also use cardboard as stated above for flat areas, but the wire works well with curves. use a glue gun to get the cardboard to stay put. fiberglass is forgiving if your making something like a custom sub box, it doesnt have to be perfect, thats what bondo is for!

if you want to see what's involved in making a mold, go to the resident "elitest" forum at http://www.ziptied.com

here are the links to the threads that he does some interesting body modifications in.

alternatively, for the second thread, you can go the main page and it will have an article there that illustrates the same thing.

you don't need an account to look at it, but i'd make a PDF of the page while it's public, just incase.
