Reinveting the wheel (five-lug, rear) vs beating dead horse

Recommended Posts

Just curious, has anyone tried fitting the five-lug, vented rotor off the front of a '95-'96 240SX-SE onto the rear of an early Z? The rotor is a slide-on and the earlier four-lug 240SXs at least, have the correct sized pilot hole (68mm) for the Z axle fit.

definitely DEAD Horse........... b_hand.gif

those brackets someone here bought only to find out that they ONLY work with the 79 type calipers. and they are alum and threaded with coarse threads! not the choice i would use for a brake bracket -- but they do look nice.. but really a poor design.

240sx front rotors are too small to clear OVER the Z stub axle . i have some here want them?

been there done that. or at least tried that.

Mike KZ? (i think it was) back east has the Z32 stuff with 4 lug and i have it with 5 lug. you can only do the 5 lug with the later 87-8 floater hub and make brackets.

the rear just AINT gonna work - i believe it was Dan in colorado who tried to make it work and it just wont go. the only other car i've seen with Z32 stuff under it has narrowed rear arms and this narrows the track - not a good thing to me but he did this and tubbed the ass end to clear larger rims inside the stock bodywork. personal choice.

i dont think there's any left of this horse to beat! ugg.gifsmile.gif

Mike is correct. I tried to utilize the rear Z32 setup but finally had to say "that enough effort". Have to know when to pick up the chips and leave the game. On that note, I am trying something completely new for a rear brake system. If it works, I will naturally share my findings with the group and if it doesn't well... cry2.gif . Having fun experimenting and learning.

Mike, I did have the 5lug hubs machined to match the offset of the 4 lug hubs. I can now use my custom rims!!!! and rotate should I choose. The machinist did an absolutely fantastic job. All surfaces are within 2 thousands. I probably have the only "custom" front Z hubs on the planet. I let the guy take his time, check-up once a week and he called me today and said come and get them. Our hubs are made from a very high grade of cast iron and require extreme care to weld. He also did the welding and again did a great job. A little off the subject but wanted to tell you about it.

Daw,

before you go any further take the z32 rear rotor and remove all your drums backing plates, slide that puppy over the stub axle with 3 studs punched out and look at the clearance between the rear of the rotor and the flange where the "bracket" would mount with bolts. the gap AIR is like 1/8" NO way anything is going to hold up to braking with being that thin.

look at that first and then tell me if you think you can make it bolton.

hell my cars on the hoist with no rims i can take a pic and post how close it is...

Danno,

good to hear you got the hubs done. let me know how the "next" search works out for rears. i'm doing more of the one i mailed you pics of with the ebrake now...

i still have those ebrake spot brackets if you find a rotor that will allow access to the bolt holes..

240SX won't work with the maxima bracket, totally different offset. Part of the big reason Mike's done his own weld on brackets for ages with the 240SX caliepr and that Mike & I now have a bolt on CNC bracket available. Maxima wasn't ideal and feedback (including this forum) said a better mousetrap was desired.

They're now done and available and shipping in order that payments were received, 88-94 240SX rear's with 11.4" Z31 front rotors. Enjoy your R&D for your planned custom setup, frankly I'm glad it's done for this bracket!

I believe I saw a 5 lug Altima the other day (surprised me somewhat). I do know that the 4 lug Altima front rotors will fit the Z OEM rear hubs will about a 1" offset (identical to the 80's Maxima front rotors), so I am suggesting that perhaps the 5 lug Altima rotors (I don't know when Nissan changed to a 5) should be investigated, and if it appears viable, let the rest of us know what the results are. Hopefully I wasn't seeing things when I saw the 5 lugger.
