Modern Motorsports Ltd
Danno, no reason not to keep it. Handy little shield to minimize material getting at your seals. Doesn't take long to modify it to make it fit so may as well keep it. Same function as the backing plate up front which I keep when possible. Out back if you go to disks then the stub axle backside is more exposed and thus the 'shield' certainly can't hurt. I keep them on my 'prepped' 5lug stub axles I've been supplying. Guest scca
i agree with MikeK. toss it, i have used it sometimes but i find it acts as a spring and helps to loosen the studs, especially if you use ARP as the length of the knurl isnt that long. Danno74Z
This weekend I'm drilling/converting the 4-lug stub axle to 5 lugs. On the inner side of the stub axle there is a thin gauge metal shield that rests on the backside of the flange. The lug bolt heads sits on this shield. What is the purpose of this shield (perhaps I answered my own question) and can I toss it when I redrill the new holes? Has everybody kept this shield or just removed it? SCCA what is your opinion on this since you have done so many conversions? Thanks, Danno74Z
Mikelly
Toss it... Not needed and you won't miss it! Mike Kelly
