rdsk8ter
Can anyone give me any insite or any good links for building a tpi? Its out of a 88 trans am factory built. Also I would love to remove some emitions crap if I can, but what will this do to the comp? Also what reccomendations do you all have (minus throw it away or get a ls1 lol I'd love to but my budget is not there right now). I would love any suggestions that will help with this engine. Before you say it yes I tried to search but computers hate me and every time I tried on here I kept getting errors. I have to get my it guy to my office. Z48LT-1
Click Search. Click Advanced Search. Enter tpi in keyword(s) block. Change "entire posts" to "titles only". Click Chev V8 Tech Board. Go. presto, 50 threads. Cheers -- Gary

jhaag
rdsk8ter: You might check the TPIS (Tuned Port Induction Specialties, Inc.) website at (http://www.tpis.com/index.php?toggleCatalog=1) since they still offer a lot of L98 items. My TPI is stock except for headers but I've collected some engine build articles over the years. Since you are in Colorado, you are welcome to browse them if you'd like. I am in Englewood, near Porter Hospital. Regards, John
grumpyvette
http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/102-5007616-6964908?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=tuned+port+injection&Go.x=12&Go.y=8 ok, a few points (1)the stock TPI intake even once extensively ported is going to be very restrictive to max air flow, youll need to upgrade the head, intake, manifold, cam and compression to maximize the potential results. (2) the max reasonable lift and durration for street use on a small block is in the area of .570-.600 lift and 234-240 @ .050 lift range with 92 octane fuel and 3.73 rear gears, the best cams Ive found to date http://www.crower.com/misc/cam_spec/cam_finder.php?part_num=00471&x=17&y=5 http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browseParts&action=partSpec&partNumber=119661&lvl=2&prt=5 (3) the curtain area of flow a .600 lift and a 2.02 valve is 3.8sq inches (4) max compression on pump gas is in the 10.5-11:1 with those cams and that REQUIRES BOTH a 3.73-4.11:1 rear gear and a 2800-3000rpm stall or manual transmission (5)look thru these http://www.newcovenant.com/speedcrafter/calculators/runnerarea.htm http://www.newcovenant.com/speedcrafter/calculators/intake.htm (6)head flow with the comon 23 degree heads should exceed 240cfm at .400 lift to maximize the results (7) displacement should be maximized, theres no reason to build less than a 383-396, cost will be a factor if you go bigger than about 421-430cid without a aftermarket block example of what can be built http://www.diabolicalperformance.com/DPIEFI427.html http://airflowresearch.com/articles/article034/A-P2.htm

jhaag
Grumpyvette: Thanks for your TPI website suggestions - I found them interesting but several of the links didn't work for me (I tried them several times). Do you have any updated addresses for these? mobythevan
Yes, you can use Megasquirt. I did an install on a TPI engine. You can see the details in the megasquirt forum. I used an 87 setup.
