Dp351zcar
For a 71Z I was wondering if anybody can recall what the measurement is between the brake backing plates. I'm measuring for a solid rear to see if it will fit. All my car parts are put away while my cars bottom is on the top. Don

Dan Juday
I measured 49 1/2" sitting on the ground. Mine is a '73, but I think they are the same.
Guest Anonymous
I'm doing just the opposite; looking at replacing the 8" axle in my '66 Mustang with a Datsun IRS. The width of my '66 Mustang 8" axle and a mid-70's (?) Datsun 240Z that I measured are the same, so if you find an early Mustang width 8.8" or 9" Ford axle, (like the Versailles or Explorer or '57-'59 Ford), you're in business.
