Guest Tom Scala
If I screw up the launch in my turbocar with too much throttle and not enough clutch I obviously get massive wheel spin but sometimes wheel hop too. My rear springs are stock and the struts are stock replacement type. I still have the rear sway bar, could this be a problem? I know on a GM type 4 link coil spring rear the stock springs/shocks work well under most conditions but this is my first IRS. Should the springs be stiffer? What about ride height. On the 4 link solid axle cars high rear ride height causes improper geometry and wheel hop. Is it the same or different on the Z? Mine sits up a bit in the back. I haven't broken anything yet since I back off as soon as the rattling starts but eventually I won't be so lucky.
fl327
loosening the rear sway bar at the links can reduce wheel hop, how worn are your tires, also check diff bushings for wear, most likely the sway bar is too tight causing some hop.
Mike C
All of the rear suspension bushings can deflect causing wheelhop, urethane helps a lot. Dampening on your struts is probably the culprit. Probably don't want to hear it, but the adjustable Illuminas is probably the best thing you can do to try and "tune" it out.
fl327
hes right, at the same time i reduced sway bar tension, i did all the rear bushings.
