jeep engine question.

Recommended Posts

If I have two choices of crank that I can take, both come from the same engine but, one has 8 counterweights & the other one has 12 counterweights...

:?: Which of the two cranks would be better suited for higher revs.

My guess would be 8 since it's lighter and that they used 12 on the other one for smoothness...

Thanks.

It would depend on the use of the engine. I have a 4.6L stroker in my rockcrawler (1990 YJ) I used the heavyweight crank to help with some stalling issues. When I would be crawiling a big boulder I would use the extra mass to help ease me over the edge. Now in my wife off road Jeep (1997 ZJ/Grand) well she pefers MUD, where wheel speed is king, her stroker got the light weight crank so she could mash it off the line and get her wheel speed up ASAP. Her's is also an automatic, mine is a 5 speed. Keith
