Are all rebuilding kits basically the same? or are there major differenences from let's say a t25 and a t3/04? What does a kit consist of? Do I nessecarly have to get someone else's rebuild kit, or can I get the parts for my own for much cheaper at a hardware/home supply store? steal my nametag Posted May 16, 2007 Share Posted May 16, 2007 i have to agree with pick, if you're uncomfortable in any way doing the rebuild yourself don't even bother. turbos are expensive no matter how you look at them, you could save some money on labor if you're comfortable. the key to it is if you're uneasy with the work don't try it you can end up losing alot more money. there are several mail-in shops that you can send your turbo into as a core and they'll send you a rebuilt one for the price of labor. good luck in your endevour. mobythevan Posted May 16, 2007 Share Posted May 16, 2007 my friend bought a rebuild kit from http://www.gpopshop.com/rebuilding.html It was terribly difficult to get the turbo apart, specifically the turbine bolts. Then he ended up breaking the new carbon seal. It safe to say that I will not be rebuilding any of my turbos. But it has been interesting to watch him try.
