driftz240
I have a 240zt i built to compete on a professional level in drifting it does very well but teh car still needs more development. I want to get more steering angle out of it , i made smaller rack spacers/stops, and ground another tooth into the rod inside the rack, this works much better than stock but i want to have more "more steering angle = less spins, i find myself hitting the steering stops too often, and still do not get as much steering as a stock s13/14 here are my plans 1. I have another steering rack i will take to a local machine shop and have the inner rod made a bit longer with more teeth "more teeth more turning" 2. since i have 16+8 0 offset wheels i am hitting the tc rods as it is now, so i will need to space the wheels further away from the tc rods and frame rail for more tire clearance when fully turned in. I was thinking some 35mm hub spacer adapters on all for corners. 3. carbon fiber zg flares, to cover up the wheels in an attempt to stop the tires from rubbing the fenders. my worries are that the wider stance will somehow effect suspension geometry, bump steer and that sort of thing, what are some things i need to be concerned with when adding spacers that big, and how wil it effect the handeling. anyone with more info on my idea please post. driftz240
any input on this? what are some advantages or disadvantages of having some 35mm hub spacers
het976
I have 4 lug to 5 lug 2 peice adapters on my 71 240Z that are 2" thick. They are not hubcentric as I understand the term. Is that what you are looking for? I know it is wider than what you are looking at. The company is Skulte...http://www.Skulte.com. I also have 1/2" spacers on my 06 BMW 330 coupe that are hubcentric and they work great. I had to get longer wheel studs, but I have had ZERO problems with them. On the BMW, is was for looks to get the wheel out to the fender more. I bought them thru the same guy I got my H&R srpings from, but I think H&R carry the spacers. evildky
when you put negative offset wheels on to gain steering angle you'll find the part of the wheel and tire beyond the center of the steerint pivot will swing wide and require fender and valance trimming, also you can't get hubcentric spacers for the S30 as the hubs are cast not machined, and they are a tapered shape, they could be machined but you'e need custom spacers to fit your custom hubs, at which point you might as well just buy custom madew wheels from CCW, keizer, Kodiak or whoever, but again the portion sticking out is gonna hit the fender when you turn, my 11" front wheels required a LOT of trimming, they have a 5" backspace, which would be the equivelant of an 8" wheel with a 3" backspace or for the more sophisticated fix, you can re-engineer the lower control arm to do away with the TC rod, someone around here already did it, but at some point your tire is gonna hit the fender, and honestly I can't fathom needing the tire to turn further than the stock lock postions, it's got a rpetty tight turning radius, I'd think tighter than the s13's and s14's if your not getting enough turn in, add camber, it really improves turn in
driftz240
turn in isnt the problem, i have -3 deg camber, and 12mm toe out...lol its darty as hell but once you get it sideways its nice. my problem lies in when in countersteering i run out of countersteer, the z doesnt have near the countersteer a s13/14 does, i find myself hitting the stops, even after i modified the rack... my plans were to add the msa carbon fiber flares "3 inch i belive" and push the wheels out 35mm, and further modify the rack to turn even further. i was just wondering if adding the spacers would effect the suspension oddly. but i am pretty confidant it woulnt be anything i cant deal with, but might not be thinking of every detail.
