Miles
I am going to install a proportioning valve near the brake master cylinder in my 72 240Z. What should be done with the stock proportioning valve? Leave it? Gut it out? Thanks Miles
johnc
If you're running rear drums, leave both on. The prop valve in the distribution block under the master cylinder uses front brake pressure to control the pressure sent to the rear. FYI... some of the dist blocks under the master cylinder have prop valves and some don't. I don't know when the change occurred so I just tend to leave that thing alone. RB30-ZED
Hi there Miles, what ever you do , don't gut the original valve as this will join the front and rear brake circuits giving you just the one. The original valve can be replaced with one that only joins in to the rear circuit and the front lines can then be joined together. The reason for the front line running through the valve is so if the front circuit fails, the proportioning valve will stop operating giving you full use of the rear brakes.
