drunkenmaster
Hi, Has anyone done this or know if it is possible/worthwhile? Since i plan to buy a r33 front cut for the rb25det, may as well use what i can? thanks
260DET
'day fellow Aussie. Is the R33 4WD? If so a friend of mine looked at what you are proposing and concluded that new made up hubs would be required. He is still looking at various options, none of which are bolt on. The Nissan 4 spot front calipers are good though. Lots of pads available for them too. Once again, not bolt on. I use U12 Bluebird calipers and Z31 4 stud solid rotors on the rear. The rotors bolt on, the calipers, no. Let us know what works out.
drunkenmaster
hey Well, i was looking at an r33 gtst front cut, so was considering using the front brakes that come with. Wont have to worry about that for the time being now though, went on a workshop tour on friday and was extremely disheartened at the cost of building this car, will have to take it much slower than planned. All the places i visited didnt recommend using the gtst brakes (or said they are unusable although i know they are, but how much customisation i dont know), most likely because they have their own off the shelf upgrades which they would rather sell... Im tempted to attempt a more backyard job but that will be a hastle come engineering time i think.
peej410
back yard job all the way, do the work yourself and the money you save can buy you the right tools to do it. might be expensive for your first project but the next time around you wont be able to buy the knowledge you gained and youll already have the tools. im 20 i have a mig full set of air tools and pretty much everything else i need to get jobs done, and now im doing some work on the side for other people and im making decent money. its a wonderful experience and youll never forget it if you take your time - Pete
drunkenmaster
yup, i hear what you are saying 100% BUT as I have never personally done this sort of thing before AND i bought this car to be a fully engineered and registered road car, I would really need to be walked through the process in order to do things correctly. I dont know anyone well enough in this part of the industry to "take me under their wing" although i would be damn keen to do it myself if the chance was there. 260DET
A decent brake upgrade will be expensive so an 'off the shelf' conversion may be the way to go. Just make sure that it is big enough for your purposes eg with most 15" wheels you can fit up to a 295mm diameter rotor and with the Nissan 4 spots that will be big enough for most. The R32/Z32 280mm diameter rotors would also be OK but 'biggest is best' IMHO.
