Miles
I am considering installing an adjustable Proportioning valve (APV) in my 72 240Z. The stock PV is located in the rear on the passenger side near the diff and connects to a three way connector that connects to the rear brakes. I would like to install the APV on the left front fender near the MC and tap into the rear brake line that goes from the distibution block to the rear section of the MC. Or should I tap into the hard line that leaves the distribution block routed back to the rear brakes? Has anyone done this? What fittings were required? Thanks Miles
Synlubes
Hey Miles, Just a thought, you might want to look at mounting your pro valve inside the car where you can get to it to ajust it! Depending on what brake set up you have, changing wheather, race and driving conditions it may be nessary to ajust the brake bias! I have a couple different setting I use depending on the above mentioned!
CruxGNZ
Miles, You want to install the APV in the line that goes to the back brakes. I have a '73 and the stock PV was on the firewall, so I don't know if mine is the same as yours, but I took my stock PV out and gutted it. It was very easy and simple to do. This way, you have less hard lines to redo. Take into consideration that you may want to locate your APV inside the car. I felt that I needed to place mine inside, because: A) At the time I didn't know what brake pads I was going to use. Didn't know what my exact brake setup was going to be at the time. C) Didn't know what size (width) wheels I was going to have. D) Didn't know what tire compound I was going with at the time. Unless you are certain that the brake system you are going with will need very little tweaking, then you may want to install the APV inside the car. FYI, this is just me talking though. I like the fact that I can change brake bias while in the car and not have to park the thing and pop the hood to make adjustments everytime. There are also many other things that will affect your brake bias other than what I listed, some more than others, especially when you have messed around with the wieght bias of your Z (I'm assuming that you are talking about your SBC powered Z), even though the wieght difference is minute. !M! Scottie-GNZ
What Doug said. I installed mine in the pass-side storage bin so I can reach it with my right hand while still driving. Since someone will ask, the relay is for the fuel pump.
Miles
Scottie Do you have photos of how you made the connections to the stock lines attached to the stock PV? Also, what tubing size and fittings were required to tie into the brake lines and the PV? Thanks Miles
