the.goodhumorman
I got my oil changed because I was smelling lots of fuel in my oil. It looked like brand new while making my trip to California from Portland Oregon. It ran fine for a while but now I am getting horrible gas mileage and when I check the oil, it gets more black everytime and it smells horribly of fuel again. What could it be. I am lost. I heard about the mechanical furl pump diapraghm breaking and spitting fuel into the oil. How likely is that? Let me know as soon as you can. rags
Change the fuel pump. It's a common symptom. Joe
the.goodhumorman
I imagine you speak of the mechanical fuel pump? I have one floating about in the garage here somewhere. what would cause this to happen? Was it the diaphragm like I had thought? rags
Yes, the mechanical pump. The diaphram is the only thing seperating fuel from the oil. put a pinhole in the diaphram and the gas will end up in the oil.
Astral Ace
Or you could use a electrical one, and find an 80's something maxima. Get the fuel pump block off plate from it and then you could put it on your car with a new gasket like I did. I love not having that leaky craptastic pump. the.goodhumorman
Well, I think I will eventually get rid of my mechanical fuel pump all together, but I am going to wait until I put my fuel cell in and just put a good electric fuel pump in then. For now though, I am going to splurge and get a new fuel pump. Hopefully, I will have an sr20 shortly after I get my fuel cell anyway. Nizm0Zed
hey, change your oil ASAP!!!! the fuel washes the oil off bearings, increasing the wear on them drastically, If you leave them and keep running it like that, you'll spin a bearing and possibly ruin the crank, and if your really unlucky, throw a rod out the block. Not worth the risk. Replace the pump, and replace the oil.
the.goodhumorman
Will do. I was going to change the oil as soon as I got back to California. I am not driving it while it is in its current state. I luckily left the car on all night and drained the battery. gearheadstik
On the later models w electric pumps you can have a pressure regulator go out and cause the same problem.... Just figured I would put this in in case any one searches for this problem.
