Guest 1z2c
I have a 1978 280z.It has 225/70/14 on it, and they rub on front spoiler, and rub in rear when i get down on it. Im going to buy new tires this week. What is a good size to go with in 14 inch and still fill the fender well.it has aftermarket rims. But wide enough to still bite the asphalt when i get down on it. I was looking at dunlop gt .? Any ideas would be very helpful.
SleeperZ
I don't know about filling the wheel well, but I run 215/60/14s and they work very well for the street with lowered springs. Not too harsh on rough surfaces, and a fair sidewall for cornering. Of course they don't stick real well, but that's most likely because I paid $5 each for them from a scrapyard. RPMS
Hey, 1z. The answer to your question depends somewhat on the manufacturer of the tire you buy. I understand that one brand's 225 will rub, but anothers will not. Unfortunately, I don't which brands are wide and which are skinny. I've found that, assuming your wheels have the stock offset, that a 215 tire is a relatively safe choice, but you may experience some rubbing when going over large pavement waves. If you don't want to have any rubbing at all, you may wish to go with a 195 series. Also if your springs and struts aren't in good shape, any problems you might have with tire rubbing will be ten times worse. A problem you only hear once in a blue moon with good struts might be heard on a daily basis with bad struts or tired springs.
