Astral Ace
I have a '73 240, and my 4-speed just sucks. I can't stand the "great" gas milage it gets on the highway. I need a five speed that will bolt right in, because I don't have a lot of time before I could be gone for 4 months... There are 2 280z's and 1 280ZX at the local junkyard and all are 5 speed. Will either of them fit without moding anything? Or does anyone have one for cheap? Anyways, thanks a lot. And I did search, maybe not that great, but the wifey is all rushy to go to the... fair. (yay, not.) I hate oklahoma by the way.
fastzcars
Either one will fit , but I would get the 280z's trans, and don't forget to get the drive shaft and crossmember as well. That way it's a total bolt in!
Astral Ace
Thanks a lot. I bet her that I'd have an answer before we left. I don't have to pay to get in now. Well, not out of my pocket atleast.

Astral Ace
Depends on the cost... and shipping. Military don't pay enough to ship big things.
Guest durableswedish
on the flip side of this, is a 5-speed from a 70 240z going to bolt in to a 81 280zx? will i need the x member and driveshaft too?
boardkid280z
on the flip side of this, is a 5-speed from a 70 240z going to bolt in to a 81 280zx? will i need the x member and driveshaft too? From what I understand, early 70-71 240s have a different front driveshaft connection, it is a 4-bolt flange instead of (or in addition to) the slip fit spline. And you can't just use an early driveshaft because the later cars have the rear diff moved back a couple inches so their driveshafts are 1-2" longer. This is my understanding as I was asking questions about this since I have a 'middle-close ratio' five speed with the 4 bolt flange. It won't fit in my 78 without who knows what...
