ZDrifter
So I have a couple events coming up. Autocross this next weekend and drag racing the start of november. I would love to catch both of these on camera for whoever wants to see them. Now, considering my car isnt caged yet....places to mount the camera are limited. I have been looking at suction cup/window type mounts and bought one but it didnt work out.... Did a little more research and found out that vaccuum suction type mounts work well for most people and I have found the vacuum cup that most people are using. I can only find it online and it costs a pretty penny. Anyone know of where else I could find this piece in a generic store for less? I looked in home depot but they didnt have anything. It looks like something that would be used for handling sheets of glass... I cant see buying a $100 mount off of ebay when I can get the suction cup and make the rest myself... Any help would be appreciated thanks!!! This is what the cup looks like.....
1 tuff z
if you're auto-xing with scca or another sanction and/or lapping be sure to check ahead of time to see what they will allow for mounts. i've seen it vary greatly, most however, will want an scca approved mount with a safety tether. advance research will save you both frustration & ebarassment. my 13 cents worth... johnc
In SoCal the region requires a safety strap, independent of the mount, to secure all camera inside the car.
ZDrifter
I found that whole ebay unit that was $100 on ebay...for $50 on Amazon. So Im going to go ahead and spend the money to get it. Also it would be a smart idea to make a safety strap like John C said because I would rather not have my camera flying around the car anyways. Seems like scca would keep a lot of the rules generic for different states. Thanks for the advice guys and hopefully I can get some good footage!
