janaka
Well I've wanted a sbc for my Z since I've had it and I'm now in the position to make it a reality. my question for you guys is this. should I just go out and buy an already built motor or should I piece one together myself? my abilities with cars/motors is pretty good, I tore down and built up my last motor (3.8L superchaged V6, converted to turbo, new cam/heads/intake blah blah) so I'm capable of doing it myself (albeit with some help on occasion ) so should i make a custom sbc or should i get an off the shelf variety? I'm looking for 350-400hp out of a 383 stroker if that matters in the equation, non-boosted. thoughts? opinions?
BillZ260
Welcome!!! It's really a personal decision, some guys buy crate motors, other guys like to build. If you aren't really big on how fast things get done, then build it, it's ALOT more rewarding when that baby fires up
HarrisonTX
Welcome!!! It's really a personal decision, some guys buy crate motors, other guys like to build. If you aren't really big on how fast things get done, then build it, it's ALOT more rewarding when that baby fires up I have built a few motors piece by piece, and it is fun, and rewarding, but i do think it is more expensive if you have nothing to start with. If you were to build say, a ZZ 383, with the same parts, i think it would be considerably more than just buying the crate, and you know all the stuff will work together. for example i just got some Brodix ik200's, which came with new springs, but they wont work with my cam, so bam, gotta get new springs. dsommer
Follow me, it's going to be a slow build but the end results will be well worth the wait... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=126721
