REDCANCER
Sorry for any newb questions, but a mechanic told me my frame was "dimpled". He told my as long as I was planning on selling my car within 3 years not to worry about it. This is up by the engine. I took some pics (sorry they're from a cell phone) and was looking for advice. Is it repairable? The rest of the body is very straight, with a little rust in a rear quarter panel. If I let go of the steering wheel while driving, it will usually stay straight (if I'm on a level road).
EMWHYR0HEN
its hard to tell from that picture, but if that area is just "dimpled" and not bent along with the frame around it you should be fine. it's definatly repairable. Cut n' paist with sheet metal.
jkgts1
Can you get a different angle, because it is very hard to tell.
REDCANCER
I'll try to get a different angle in the morning, sorry it was hard to angle my phone and see what I was taking a pic of. If you look closely, there is a long crease going from the bottom right of the first pic up into the rusted area.
JMortensen
Looks like pretty much every Z that has ever gone over a curb or into a deep pothole at some point in its 30+ year history. Mine was quite a bit worse than that. The main thing is that the alignment is even side to side. If that is the case, then I'd drive it. If you're going to be road racing with big sticky tires or you can't get it aligned, then I'd worry about it. The Zedd Findings frame rails replace the injured part of the frame rail, but you have to locate and weld the TC bucket back on, so it's not a job for a first time welder: http://www.datsunzparts.com/NewParts/summary.htm You could also repair with sheet metal as suggested above. I'd probably go with something a little thicker than stock, maybe .060" or something like that and cover up a good amount of the frame on either side of the dent after you cut that section out. REDCANCER
Thanks for the info, here's another angle. One of my pans also needs replaced, thanks for the link. I can't weld, so I'll have to ask one of my friends to do it.
