jgkurz
Hi folks, It's time to replace the original carpet in my 77Z. The color fade and wear is partly the reason. The other reason is the typical old Datsun smell is getting a potent. I'm not sure if it's the old glue, dye, or what but it's time to go. I would like to buy the best quality possible that has an OEM look and is easy to install. I don't want a 2" thick padded carpet like some places offer. I think I want the "Pile" type carpet which I believe is the original type. I also want the fit to be good and with a driver side heel pad. Can anyone make a recommendation on brand, quality or what's worked well? At this point I'm not concerned about price. So far I've found: MSA: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SIC103/40-2586G Black Dragon: http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/z/0069.asp Stockinteriors: http://www.stockinteriors.com/AutoCarpet.asp?Itemid=8948&MakeId=38&ModelId=315 1A Auto: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Carpets/Datsun/280Z/1ACCS00425/558200
ktm
I have a 240z and bought MSA's sectional carpet kit. I assume that their full carpet kit is manufactured by the same company, so I'll comment on my experience. The MSA sectional carpet kit, as delivered, is ok. The pieces fit well, but it has a "cheap" feel due to the very thin padding. I removed the padding and applied some 6 lb/sf carpet padding to the carpet pieces. This dramatically improved the look and feel of the kit. The carpet is wearing well so far.
Nismo280zEd
I Always just go down to the local carpet supplier here and give them about 40 bucks and I get enough black backed carpet to do two cars. It lasts about 1-2 years. I don't run padding either and it holds up well to the sun. It's boat carpet I believe. I've been thinking about upgrading to some black indoor carpet like burbur or something robust like that.
TrumpetRhapsody
Only 1-2 years? Is that normal, or is it b/c it's not automotive carpet?

Nismo280zEd
Only 1-2 years? Is that normal, or is it b/c it's not automotive carpet? For auto carpet, no... it's not normal. But I also have holes in my floor board so it gets wet, I've had a leaky windshield for the life of me can't find the leak (till recently) Had a leaky quarter window, etc. This is the reason i don't spend money on good carpet. It's just a cheap synthetic carpet. When all the leaks are fixed and the car is water free I want more of a heavy duty inside carpet. tkach
Nismo280zEd do you have any pics of the installs info on the process? Is it just cut and fit?
