60mm throttle spacer idea

Well in the quest to pinch pennies, i had a possibly novel idea for a cheap throttle body spacer.

While looking at the stock 50mm tb and 240sx 60mm, trying to figure out how to swap linkages, i realized the base flange from the 50mm tb would make a perfect spacer by cutting it off and milling it flat. I'm just not sure how thick a spacer is required though, because the flange is only about a half inch. It does have the flange for the idle air control flange already on it though.

Just wondering what your thoughts are?

You'd need 2. The spacer is 1 inch thick I think...

Go to a local machine shop and see if they have any scrap acrylic. That's what I made mine out of for free.

so that full 1" is required?

My engine is half way across town so i can't just go look at it.:icon50:

If you want to use the original linkage then yes, I believe you need it to be 1".

Why not convert to a throttle cable and not even use a spacer?

I'd like to keep my cruise control. It will be on an 83 turbo swapped zx. Also I'd like to keep the IAC

I really can't remember how that works, as I haven't had a look in my ZX's hood in a couple of years. Doesn't it work with another ball linkage on the part that is connected to the pedal?

If so, there was a thread on a lokar cable the hooks up right there, so you shouldn't loose the cruise control.

If I recall correct, the cruise control cable attaches to the linkage rod thing that runs across the top of the intake manifold.

On my car ('77 280Z), I simply spun the SR20 (240SX) throttle around 180 degrees and it fit without a spacer. I then used the lokar throttle cable (as pictured above) to completely eliminate the shaft linkage stuff. No spacer needed. The TPS is then located on the passenger side where the linkage used to be. Obviously, I ported the mouth of the intake manifold to match, too.
