deja
My 280Z has made this noise since I bought it 3 years ago. When I open the driver's door there are 2 loud clicking sounds like you hear a lot of old cars make. I've greased the hell out of the hinges and the roller that cam thing rides on but it has no effect. I'm thinking something must be worn out. Any clues what cause this and how to fix it? Its getting very annoying!
VinhZXT
Deja, Check the roller carefully. It might not be rolling any more. I was checking my Z out the other day with the same problem. The roller has rust between itself and the shaft and it wasn't rolling any more. This will cause the spring loaded arm to pop out and caused the noise. The best way to fix is get that roller to move and put a lot of grease in it. The other way is to replace the whole hinge assembly. GL V. deja
That's the first thing I looked at, its moving free. I just read somewhere to replace the hinge pins, that doesn't sound like fun. mgood
Deja, my 76 is doing the same thing. My hinges are working and everything looks good, the roller is even rolling. If I remember it has made that popping noise for a very long time. The car has 48K miles and has been garage kept from the beginning. I seem to think that its just the way the door hinge works and sounds over time.
