J Taylor
I am thinking hard about upgrading my cobra tranny to a tremec in the very near future and since I have broken 3 trannies in the 280 in just a few thousand miles I am wanting to try to make the cobra tranny work in it. Here is what I am thinking: I want to find a junk T5 from a 280zx turbo and swap the bellhousing and input shaft over to the cobra tranny. Would this work? I can't think of any reason it shouldn't. Mike C
I don't think it will work because the gear ratios are different. You would also have to change the countershaft gears and the mainshaft gears if you swap inputs, and I think the cases are different as well as shifter location? The old ZX tranny is a non world class and speed gears are on bushings. The world class trans uses roller bearings. Check out www.gearzone.net for more info on T5s. What are you breaking? They have a countershaft stabilizer that does wonders for exploding T5s.
