Guest Idahogirl
So, I don't know much about cars but it looks like everyone who owns one of these that runs, LOVES them! i'm looking at buying one and need to know if it would be worth it. i'm told it runs. they claim the only mechanical problem is a wire to the ignition (but they have it rigged to the battery and it will run). they just put a new fuel pump in it. they say the inside is 'trashed' (cracks, fading...who knows!). i haven't gotten to go see it yet but working on researching it first so i know more about what i would be getting into. it's an 81. they are willing to do some trading and $100 cash. i was originally just looking for a cheap car for my husband to go to work and back across town but this looks like it has so much more potential AND could take him to work and back! any advice would be helpful! thanks

m1noel
I'd look at the frame rails near where the engine mounts are and underneath the car. If they have holes, forget it. If not and you are not trading more than one arm, go for it. The t-tops and wheels are worth more than $100. The interior parts are not cheap, but available. I can't remember if that year had the digital gages or not. If they are digital and don't work, they will be hard to replace. Where in ID are you? You can pm me if the car is not too far away I may be able to take a look. Mike
xenonxiii
Digital was 83 only
roger.svoboda
81 n/a and not really running probably only worth 2-3 hundred. I'm in WA bought 81 turbo needed new battery for $450. 83 Turbo blown head gasket $250 but I wanted the nazi wheels. ran them both for a few years. They are fun but that one sounds like a project car and you say you aren't a really good wrench so you will either learn as you go or you may want to find something a little more together. Guest Idahogirl
thanks for all the advice guys! my husband went to look at it and decided it was in much worse condition than they had claimed and probably hasn't even been started up in a couple years based on the condition the engine was in and the things growing in/around it. it looks nice from the pictures they sent but i guess i'll have to find something different
