evildky
so I'm in the process of building a long rod L30, I got custome pistons and floating wrist pins form wiesco, my machine shop recomends overboring the rod end and inserting a buching that will then be machined to fit the pin, they say this si the way OE's do it, but he can't find a buching to fit? anyone else use buchings? which ones? this a bunch of crap to add to my machining bill? Careless
if he means the small end bronze bushing... then what type of rod are you using? Isn't there already a bronze or brass press-fit bushing at the small end? here is what a rod with a press-fit bushing looks like (click to see full size) if a machinist is recommending the modification, he should be capable of finding a suitable bushing that he can use by over-sizing the small end by 2 or 3 mm, and interference fitting a new bushing like the picture above (except that one was press fit before final flat face grinding. He should then be able to bore the inside diameter back into spec. It kinda sounds like he's trying to make it seem harder to find than a regular bushing. 1 fast z
Custom bushings will need to be made. What rods are you using? When you say long rod, I am thinking LD rods? If so, they already have a removable bushing but they are HUGE. I have bored the rods in both of my big motors to accept a full floating pin. evildky
I'm using L24 9mm rods, with the L28 crank, the rods are pressfit stock so they don't have bushings right? when I ordered my weisco's I specified a 21mm floating pin, I assume that the stock opening would need to be milled to accept these in free float? and didn't notice any bushings did I screw up? should I have ordered smaller or larger pins to allow for a standard bushing? can I order bushing stock somehwere? I am kinda regretting my choice in shop, while they are experienced with forign engines, even the L6 they don't seem to have a clue about custom work
1 fast z
Well, A speacial jig needs to be made, to hold the big end of the rod, because these bushigns have to be exactly perpendicular to the rod, so you dont get piston rock/slap. No, Full floating pin, is the best way to build a motor. Some have just honed the existing forged steel, and ran the hard pin on steel. Not me, while some have had success, It is not a good idea. If your up to it, you can ship me your rods, and I can bush them for you, and fit them to your pin. PM me if your interested.
evildky
any chance you could just sell me the bushings? or perhaps even sell me a set prebushed L24 9m rods? it's kinda a hold up at this point
