Guest Regul8rZ
Im new to this site and i have been searching far and wide to find a place who can help me with getting my Z to pass emissions. Im not a super car know it all guy only 18yo. i just know the basics but im learning . Any suggestions would help, i have had the car for about a year and a half now and since i bought it from a previous owner, it has not passed emissions yet. The very 1st test i did it scored about a 450 on Hydrocarbons ( the required to pass is 220 where im from). After some modifications it scored around 310. Then came the time to where i cant drive it (had to get a car that i can drive to school and back) cause of expired tags. It was sitting dormant for about 4 months when i decided to work on it again. I went to get it retested and it scored around 550. I have replaced a ton of things small things on the car and nothing seems to work. The car runs perfect, steady idle and everything, i dont seem to know why it wont pass. It would be nice just to get some hints or tricks just to get it passed then possibly just make it run like it has been or improving the car to make it run better. Any thing will help thanks. Silver Mine Motors
Have you tried adjusting the maf sensor? my car had the same problem. i use the get 15 miles per gallon, and would not even come close to passing smog. then i adjusted the maf sensor, and my car went from 14.7 to .004 emitions, and is now getting 20 miles per gallon. there are forums here on how to do it. but if you don't know what you are doing you might want to pay a mechanic to do it. the best way is to take it to a smog place and hook up their machine in your tail pipe. Then adjust the sensor. this way you know were to leave the setting. if you do it with out the the machine at the smog shop you could make your car to lean and hurt your engine. MannyZX
It's not a permanent solution and you have to smog it quick, just change the plugs, Sea foam the injection system and instal a new cat, It should do the trick It worked for me:p

roger.svoboda
I retarded the spark til she barely ran (83 n/a) then ran the idle up to 700 rpm. drove over there to get it good and hot and it passed drove to the nearest parking lot set spark back to normal and idle so I could drive it easily but it did pass.
