Challenger is giving you a good point.

 

 

I will go this far out......

Proper tuning of carbs, and everything I've read about internals, is similar to the early design of fi on that engine. (complexity wise, if not more on carbs)

 

If you are a very old person (no offense gentlemen) I can see this point.

If you are younger, you may want to see fi through.

When putting an L28E into my 260z I switched over to dual side draft su carbs and I love it. Seemed like a lot of work to mount the old FI system from my ZX into the 260 when I could just slap on a new set of carbs. Although my carbs looked really new and restored when I got them, so tuning was not an issue.

 

To address your issue about the distributor. When dropping the L28E into my 260 the ZX distributor would not directly swap due to the little black box on the side of the dizzy (ignition control module) that didn't have anything to connect to. Swapped in the 260z Dizzy and everything worked fine. To clarify thats a 260 Distributor connected to a L28E in a 260z chassis that was originally setup for carburetors.
