Cutlass372
Hey everyone, I have been reading up on some stuff and it appears that the tokico springs for the 280z are linear and are around 185f and 200r. Would it be possible to cut say 1-2 coils off of these springs (depending on desired hieght) and install them on a 240z? More so what im asking is how much would it increase the spring rate and would they still be able to be used with the tokico illuminas which max at like 250-275ish. Or would it just be easier/cheaper to pick up some AZ car springs and do the same. Coilovers are not out of the question, but I would just need to find a cheaper way of building my own. Would anyone know where to source parts to build my own set of coilovers? (threaded collars, etc).
JMortensen
Cutting the coils won't raise the spring rate much at all. I think the 280 springs don't get over 130 in/lbs or so, you can check over at classiczcars.com and find the specs. You might bump it up 5 or 10 in/lbs by cutting. If you can get the specs on the wire diameter number of coils, etc, you can check the spring rate mathematically: http://www.pontiacracing.net/js_coil_spring_rate.htm Sorry for the annoying background on the link, it was the first one I clicked on.
