So I just got done installing my new Manual boost controller and went for the test drive, and it was not boosting, then there was a fairly large spike and then back to no boost... I will detail my hookup and maybe someone can show me my error...

1981 280ZXT

Hallman Ball&Spring Controller

I hooked the outlet of the boost controller to the wastegate.

There are two vacuum lines, one from the intake and one from the turbo that meet at a "T" that normally feed into the wastegate. I hooked the inlet of the boost controller after this "T". Does this sound correct? Am I suppose to cap one of these lines? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On my 81 I just cut the hose going to the waste gate and put the boost controller in there. outlet to the waste gate inlet. pressure from the volute to the boost controller. you must adjust the boost controller to get correct boost. Be sure you don't kink hose. Son did that on the z31 and he got like 25 psi boost cause the boost controller never saw boost pressure.

MBC = FTL. :D Especially cheap ebay ones. What kind are you using and where did you get it?

You should be able to easily install it inline w/ the hose going to the waste gate actuator. You don't cut or cap anything, just add a length of hose on the now lacking side.

It is definitely not a cheapy eBay one. This is top of the line hallman ball & spring...

I am pretty much at a loss now.. I hooked up the controller after the Y connector in line before the wastegate and when I take the car out, it is just running really bad. It does not seem to want to boost at all. It idles decent but when you accelerate, it is slightly hesitant to change gears and it just really doesn't seem to boost at all...

Only things I can think of.. Does it matter what position the controller is in? I have mine laying flat not standing upright?? Or do you have to add a certain amount of boost from the controller? I had mine backed off to where there would probably be very little if any?? Any input here will help. This is really starting to drive me nuts. This should be an easy install and it is causing headaches..

As far as flow direction, the instructions say the bottom fitting is the air in from the compressor and the side fitting is the air out to the wastegate. That is the way I have it hooked up right now...

yes after you install the controller it mesures the boost....for every click that you turn it is 1 lbs. if you have it closed you wont get any boost at all...close it all the way then raise it to 6 lbs(with the boost controller) then drive the car and see if that does anything
