Guest
need to know from the experts what diff will best handle 300-350bhp's daily abuse.i've heard the r230's a little too hard to do and was told to go with the r200. what do you recommend since i'm on a tight budget. thanks
Guest kc6wfs
Hi Javv, The R200 should do just fine. The will put up with ~400hp or more. Just be sure your half shaft u-joints are in good shape. What year of Z you have? Thanks Dave
Guest Anonymous
The 200 diff are plentiful. There have been former posts about half shaft u joints without grease zerts as the strongest. Also there are u joints with life time guarantees. Do a search for this information
Guest Anonymous
I hear an R200 is the bomb. Then get a Phantom Grip from Mike (SCCA). That's what I'm doing. Call Zbarn. They can set you up. $175 for the R200 diff of your choice (gear ratios). You can get it lots cheaper at a JY but the yards around me have diddley. Uh, it should work. If it breaks, fix it! DAAAAAAAAAAA. Jon
pparaska
I agree - R200 open diffs are fairly easy to source in 3.545:1, 3.7:1 and with the Phantom Grip ($290 if you can get one from Mike-scca) added to it makes it a LSD-type diff. It'll handle up to 500 hp, some say, but that all depends on how you use it. If you stay with an opened R200, don't go spinning one tire everywhere (although the smoke can be fun ) - it'll eat up the spider gears and/or spider gear pin. Tim240z
i've heard the r230's a little too hard to do That is a very relative statement. Personally, I don't think that it is all that difficult. Sure it's not bolt in like a R200 is, but the diffs in the JYs are going to have many less miles on them, will be newer, have no wear out LSD parts (viscous) and have CV jointed strong half shafts. And best of all, Infinity is Nissan, so you it will still be all Nissan (don't flame me guys...just poking fun ) But if $$ are a major concern, then yes, the R200 is the way to go. Does anyone know what the life expectancy is on the LSD clutches in the LSD units that Mike is currently flogging? Tim
