Caddy Catera third member?!

Cadilac Catera third member, (Front wheel drive?)

 

Inadvertently found this third member while surfing. Did a quick search but could not find any definitive info on it. Any of you guys know anything about this third member?

 

The main questions that come to mind;

1) Do they come in LSD?

2) What ratios?

3) Strength? (Aren't the Cateras an anemic 3.0 V-6?)

4) Is it worth looking into as an alternative Hybrid Datsun third member?

All the info I see online says the Catera is rear wheel drive.

 

FYI, you wouldn't want to use a purpose built front differential in the back of a car, because in all likelihood it would have reverse cut gears so you would be driving on the "coast" side of the gears, and they're much weaker that way. For this reason taking a rear differential and putting it in the front of a truck (like the R180 used in the 720's for example) is also the crappy way to do it. I guess the theory is that people don't use 4wd very often, but if the vehicle is to be built to put down a lot of power or for harsh usage like rockcrawling, better to get reverse cut gears in the front diff.

The Catera was built on the Holden Commodore / Monaro / Opel Omega MV6 platform. It's essentially(at a very basic level) the same vehicle as a Pontiac GTO. There's likely a lot of shared components, although the Catera had the 3.0L L81 V6(200 hp in its strongest form). Transmission was a four-speed auto GM 4L30E. Whether or not the third member was a less beefy unit compared to its V8 cousins, no idea.

FR layout, GM V platform. Looks like they came with the 4 speed auto 4L30-E. Transmission gear ratios were:

1st: 2.86

2nd: 1.62

3rd: 1.00

4th: 0.72

 

Final drive ratio is listed as 3.90:1

 

This is what the internet tells me after a quick search. Use at your own discretion.
