1rad280
I finaly have my 280 running good but the only problem is my plug wires plug wires are off one, (clockwise) so #1 is #4 and #4 is #2 ect on the cap. does this mean the oil pump is out of timing? Guest Jdilbert
I just bought a 280 thats has the same problem. Prior to doing a headgasket ( and timing cover, and oil pan...due to that wonderful tensioner.) the distributor was cranked way over. When I put it back together @ TDC with the oil pump marks lined up the the tang is not in the right position. I had to jump my cap/wire position one plug over to get the distrubitor to time back on the base. My best guess is the driveshaft gear on the crank has slipped. Or the oil pump shaft is from a different vehicle. Those are just guesses though. Maybe someone has seen this before???
roger.svoboda
probably yes your oil pump is in a bit off. BUT who cares what the cap wires say if it is running good. Check the timing if #1 is going off wherever at the right spot in the cycle it really doesn't matter what the numbers on the cap say they are just a convenience for reassembly.
