nofunchris
So, I'm in the process of upgrading the front brakes. Did all the research on here. Great site! But the new calipers seem like they are to big for the rotor? are they supposed to look like this? Did I get the "wide" version? All the pics I've seen of the calipers have the W beside the 8. There is a stamp on it but it looks like a triangle. If they are the wide version would it be easier for me to change the rotors to 300zx rotors or just bring them back and search for "non-wide" versions? A little help goes a long way, and thanks in advance. chris
nofunchris
So... in going back to autozone, I think that they had givin me calipers to an 86 toyota and not 79-84 calipers. I reordered them and hopefully they will turn up with the right ones. Must have been the wide ones. Just means the Z is again out of commision for a few days!!!!!! Clifton
Actually 79-85 are solid rotor (straight axle), truck or 4 runner. 86-95 vented (IFS). V6 definitely got the staggered sized piston calipers. I have seen 4cyl IFS 4 runners with even sized and with staggered pistons. I wouldn't go by the stamping. I have seen vented and solid calipers with the same stamping.
