Ivan280zt
I don't even keep count of how many times this thing has been in and out! lol Motor going back in to make sure that header fits. Header fits good but #1 and #6 runners will get redone for more clearance. Gonna have to massage inside of the fender for little more clearance (btw its not touching there is about 1/4" clearance right now). Final location of the turbo : )
Ivan280zt
Since Tony has been bussy with his project I went ahead and reworked #1 and #6 runners and I belive that this will be the final look before she gets welded together. Since I dont have the car at the shop I had to mount the header somehow to simulate it being bolted to the engine and work bench with hand full of clamps did the trick just fine : ) #6 all done 4" downpipe will fit so much better now #1 starting to look like runner
Ivan280zt
From the top view Front view Bottom view Back view Thats about it for header at this time I will have to wait for Tony to get some time to weld this hunk of metal together and then I can start working on intercooler piping (whole two pipes lol) and my Motec system exhaust. Ivan280zt
Over the last few weeks I have spent little over 8 hours on porting and blending in my runners to the manifold backing plate and I can say that I am more than happy with final result. Ivan280zt
Put it together then take it apart repeat whole process wow I am really starting to see pattern here lol. Here are few pictures of manifold getting welded. All apart I guess Tony does ok ; ) Since all the welding is done afther hours to get this manifold together will take some time and time I do have... Ivan280zt
Made some more progress today. I am building subaru ej205 engine for my buddy Drew here at the shop and in return he is welding my intake manifold together : ) Drew stared by tacking in three aluminum rods to minimize twisting during welding Drew about to make first pass (yes plenum is large but not that large Drew is just really small guy lol) Instead of just stich welding from inside he ended up doing full weld
Ivan280zt
We ran out of time today so it will have to be done hopefully sometimes next week. This is how she will look when its together.
Ivan280zt
Wow if I keep making updates this often I might even think that I am making some progress lol. It looks as of right now that intake manifold is about 80% done. Still have to do nitrous ports on the bottom, vacuum distribution block, throttle body spacer, and throttle body cable bracket. This is how she looks as of right now. Ready for some welding And nice inside shot I belive that it should be fully wrapped up this Saturday so I am really looking forward to it. Ivan280zt
While intake manifold has been getting most of the attention in last few weeks I could not forget about my exhaust manifold so some more progress has been made in that department. All of the runners have been fitted and welded. I am expecting to have this thing all wrapped up by the end of month so then I can start on the exhaust and intercooler piping. Ivan280zt
Door bars had to be mounted little bit lower so that wide Sparco seats would clear A-pillar bars Passenger side main hoop base in progress Dash bar and A-pillar bar base This base still needs to be boxed in
Ivan280zt
Driver A-pillar clearance talk about perfect fit : ) So I had to make sure manifolds fit good and this is how that came out More on engine bay coming up in fallowing weeks... Ivan280zt
I did some side work for my boss and this is what I requested for payment lol. New precision 46mm wastegate I dont belive these are on sale yet and I got 1bar spring in it. I got this little guy so I can have very nice and clean vacuum/pressure signal for my sensors. This is going to be bolted up on the bottom of my intake manifold (already done but no pictures right now}. Edited November 2, 2009 by BRAAP OP request. Ivan280zt
Got some nice push-to-connect tube fittings and nylon tubbing from McMaster-Carr so I can do all my vacuum lines and not have to worry about anything coming loose. I ended up getting 25' of tubing and about 12 assorted fittings for about $50 or so way cheaper that doing it with SS lines and AN fittings. They come with teflon tape already applied on them : ) Here is an example of how they will be used I am planning on using this for all of my vacuum/pressure lines which should make it one very nice and clean install. Tubing is rated for 200deg F. Fittings are rated for 250-299psi. This makes it more than capable of handling my underhood temperature and my desired boost pressure of 40 psi max. Ivan280zt
Last night Tony was able to for the most part finish the exhaust manifold. There is some light porting left, support bracket, and once downpipe is done wastegate will be able to be mounted in best possible location available. Here are some pictures from late last night. Please ignore the mess Tony hand long day
Ivan280zt
Starting to look really nice! Tony rocking out! Inside shot needs little porting Thats it for this round. I dont think that I can do much in next two weeks given that I have two cars to put together for guys at work but I hope that something can get done : ). Ivan280zt
What do you know well I got done with my friends Evo8 ahead of the schedule so I ended up bringing the Z to the work so we can have some extra space and more equipment to use : ). Day could have not turned out any better we had whole 17000sq between three of us. My buddy Chris ended up finishing the cage and I was working on mounting everything on in engine bay and starting the 4" exhaust. This is how the day started from small garage into bigger one! lol This is in the middle of our fabrication shop but today since no one was there we used it for parking space Chris finalizing the cage work Gusset for extra support Chris finishing strut plate
Ivan280zt
Here are some pictures of the engine bay progress Header bolted up all the way for the first time Kinda hard to see but clearance between fenderwell and #1 runner is much better now Intake manifold with tb spacer welded (will get upclose picture of it) and q45 tb Starting on exhaust with v-band discharge flange got machined down so that 4" pipe would slide over it for better fit Nice equipment makes these jobs so much easier : ) ...and no I was not cutting and holding camera at the same time lol
