zx beast
can I put a turbo sized flywheel and clutch plate on my 81 na, or would I have to do a t5 swap? My clutch is slippin pretty bad when I get on it, it is prob stock after the last 28 years... lol
woldson
Yep, direct swap, just did it my self. Make sure it is a 2plus2 or turbo flywheel. Specify that when getting the clutch and pressure plate. N/a 225mm turbo/2plus2 240mm Dose not seem like much, but when you compare it is big. It is measured by diamater. BTW, I had mine lighten, gives things a little more Zing!
djbit
Woldson, did you use the same collar or did you have to buy a 2+2 or turbo one? Thanks Yep, direct swap, just did it my self. woldson
Now even though I just did this I'm at a lose to the word "collar". If you mean throw out bering, it is the same. If you mean poilet shaft bearing, it is the same. I could seach "collar" and get you answer, but I might get lucky with my wife tonite, so gotta go. BTW lighten the flywheel, yaa big diff. djbit
Lol...I don't know why I said collar...but yeas throw out bearing is what I was referring to. Thanks for the response! I'll into getting rid of some flywheel weight. How much did you take off yours?
woldson
6.5lbs. You want the weight to removed futher out. This will have the greatest effect and limit possible failure where the flywheel bolts up to the crank. Get the fly wheel and pressure plate balenced as well. For me it was so worth the money. Smooth, reposive, and no problem what so ever on take off. Read up on a thread that was titled, lighten flywheel. I perfer TonyD's take on this situation. woldson
Oh one other thing, I kinda have to watch the rpms now. Around 4k plus the car would have sight vibration. Now me no feel engine in pedals or car. Almost feels like,,,,,,,,like........a honda 4banger....There I said it!!!! The engine dose not feel so heavy, it's more nimble. djbit
Thanks for all the info. I'll have to find a shop here in San Diego that does the weight removal and also the balancing. What was the cost for all that?
woldson
Mine was somewhere in the nieghborhood of 150-170. You only need to do the flywheel once. The guy was a specilist, so a bigger shop may be less.
