Evan Purple240zt
Hey guys, I sold my megan coilovers in favor of a used set of Tein flex's. Should be alot nicer on the street. My question is this, I have alot of adjustability as far as the spring preload, and ride height. Does anyone have any tips for setting these things up? Its a peformance oriented street car. 1995 240sx to be exact. It will be lowered, but not driftoro slammed. Thanks! - Evan BTW; I searched google, and found the corner weight method. Is this the only way?
Porterhausen
Tein's suck imo. For those, you want to set up the lower spring perch first, I'd go with maybe a half inch of shock pre-load. I run my Stances on my S13 with 0 preload, if the wheel is off the ground, the spring can be moved with a little effort, but it isn't loose. Make sure your heights are the same from side to side. Then set up suspension height with at the lower bracket.
JMortensen
The corner weights are important if you're racing. There is also the Weight Transfer Worksheet (search, there's a lot of references to it here--try WTW also). The WTW deals with roll center heights and spring rates and bar rates and tries to predict how the car will behave. If you're just driving on the street, find a ride height you like where you won't be bottoming out all the time, set it there and drive the car. Evan Purple240zt
Thanks Jon. Porter, I didn't ask your opinion of what I had. Thanks for the setup comments, you can keep the rest of your opinions to yourself. I did my homework and rode in several cars, the flex's are perfect for what I want them for. johnc
IMHO... No pre-load on a street car. Ride height per Jon's recommendations above and make sure you've got at least 4" of bump travel at the wheel/tire before you're into the bump stops.
