garyneedsz
i was driving my 77' 280z last week and i left it there to idle after a 45 minute drive. when it was idling, it cut off and died. my temp gauge told me that i was over heating. i am running ngk plugs, new wire set, new dist cap, and coil pack. i tried to fire it up yesterday and i was sucessful ONCE. then after that, no go. the plugs are filled with gas, and the oil it pitch black. i noticed that i need a new fan because its not spinning with the engine. when i got it to fire up just that one time, the exhaust just smelled like oil and gas. do you think i might have fried something? is it time for a rebuid? thanks
islanddozer
i noticed that i need a new fan because its not spinning with the engine. fan is attached to water pump. if pump isn't turning no water is flowing. Check water pump. is oil in water or water in oil ? Could have a bad head gasket now after overheat. Check your fluids
silverarrow27
Check fluids and compression check. You probably need a new headgasket now.
garyneedsz
alrighty. Coolant is good, Oil is at alright level. There is spark that jumps from wire to plug. When i turn the key, and then i stop, the air is rich with fuel. its coming from the exhuast but i can smell it from the drivers seat. anyways. i didnt come around to the compression check but will do that soon. is there any other problems you guys can think of? i noticed in my fusebox im using the fuse for my floor temp. but it wouldnt affect startup would it? btw, i had the wrong fuse in the floor temp slot for a couple months, is it re-routed or is the floor temp not that important. Rustyfriend
Yes. Sounds like you blew a headgasket. Possibly warped head? Any other opinion out there?
