ok heres one why use only a 1/4 watt resistor as a pull up for the ignition signal from dist. foir megasquirt, and not a full 1 watt????? i have a 1/4 watt 1k resistor, and a full 1 watt 1k resistor.. the guy at radio shack saidyep thats a bigger one cuz thats a watt.. ok so let e guess this is a smaller one cuz its a 1/4 watt... oh and you get more cuz there both 99cent and one you get 2 and the other 6 wow mr radio shack you are a pelithora of knowledge and i'm a genious who can't spell lol dur..

ok so go with what was claimed by numerous other people since I am trying to install a engine management system and bought it fully assembled as to eliminate that type of frustration... but as for schooling i would rather aim my schooling to other thngs to help my car run better be faster smoother corner better and be all around better than trying to cram $h!t i don't care about.... I got an iq of 128 and can't spell for my life, don't care much about electricity for the most part either... but got a slight bit of knowledge of car!) and that wasn't in my intelegent quota wtfe test..... hmmmm

power(wattage) = volts x amps

You have 12 volts and amps are defined as volts / resistance

12/1000=.012 amps

12 x .012 = .144 watts

A 1/8(.125) watt resistor is too small, so we use a 1/4(.25) watt one. Anything larger is overkill and unnecessary.

It doesn't hurt anything to use the 1 watt resistor for the pullup if that is what you have in your parts bin at home. But 1/4 watt is correctly sized for this circuit.

EDIT: I noticed at the bottom of the sticky is a note that someone was using a 1 watt and kept burning up HEI modules? Not sure why, but interesting.
