Rustyfriend
Hey guys. I have been working on my swap for a while and last night I got the car to fire up. Perfect idle and all, but the wires were just in a temperorary fix. Today I went ahead and hooked them up cleaner and now I am not getting any spark. I am working with a buddy of mine who knows the Z pretty much inside and out as well as having done a few turbo swaps. Let me start off by saying that none of the wires were changed in the way they were setup, just hooked up better with clips instead of being set in place. We are in the area of trying to see why we are getting no signal to the coil to (turn on?) from the ECU? or is it the other way around? It is a yellow wire with a white stripe connected to the #5 pin on the big clip into the ECU. We are dead in the water. Car started up first try last night and here today we get no spark. PLEASE HELP!
JSM
Did you unplug and re-plug all the wires to the ECU?
Rustyfriend
Yes, I tried another '82 ECU with no avail so I plugged it all back into the ECU I was using
evildky
could be a bad ignitr or a bad distributor, you can test the output form the distributor and the input to the ignitor with a snap on smart probe or similar
Rustyfriend
I tried a spare ignitor and cole with no results. Anyone?
Jersey
Sent you a PM. Start off simple again... Check that there's 12v on the B/W wire at the coil. This needs to have 12v when the key is in the "ON" position and most importantly, while cranking.
DCZ
Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I'm having a similar problem now.

DCZ
Mine turned out to be the crank angle sensor in the distributor. You can test it by probing the ECU connector, pins 8 and 17 (I think, check your FSM) should have a ~4v square pulsing wave when the engine is cranked. One of them should pulse quickly, every 1 degree of rotation, and the other should pulse slower, every 120 degrees of rotation. If you can get ahold of an oscilloscope it will be easier to diagnose. MJLamberson
If it is the crank angle sensor the light on the ECU will not come on, is your light coming on? also, try just hooking everything up how it was before, even if it was a mess, could have a short now or somthing.
