Pharaohabq
Things are looking really good, gotta give you props on your initiative. Just some cautions here: Read up a bit about Welding. it's all good till you put real pressure on bad welds. I hope you're confident in your welds. You should sand back any rust or paint before you weld sheets of metal togeter like that, you'll get a much stronger cleaner weld. I'm not saying yours are bad, just that a dirty joint often won't be as strong or clean with good penetration into the metal to bond the two together. Practice is definitely a good thing though. Also Weld in a good ventilated area. Welding releases a lot of really nasty heavy metals into the air. and especially becareful around things like brake parts cleaner or starter fluid, Burning those can give off benzine which is highly toxic and frak up your lungs in only a breath or two. 240zBoy
Thanks guys. If I did not trust my welds I would not have welded in my floors but I am willing to say I know this can hold up to a bunch of pressure and I am not worried one bit of it failing. I know a roll bar would be better but I do not want a roll bar and its a million times better than having belts go to the floor or strut towers. I weld in a well ventiliated area and material even being new was sanded down before welding. Thus I had very good penetration. It was actually a fun little project to do while I waited for another q-jet. Here is the finished product not installed. muppet
this is a great build up dude. You've been getting alot of work done on this in a short amount of time. Keep it up.
240zBoy
this is a great build up dude. You've been getting alot of work done on this in a short amount of time. Keep it up. Well I was suppose to be done for this school year being my senior year but due to my engine ordeal I missed that date by a bit. Between school and my part time job it is hard to find time but any bit is for my Z. Definately lost a bit of social life haha. Anyways, Today was first day in a week I have had to put a good amount of time in, started and got half way done with exhaust. (Got it back to the diff with dual 2.5in and met at a Y pipe, eventually going to go to a single outlet). My 13yr old lab helping me out

240zBoy
Ordered some 16x8 rota rb's in hyperblack. Haven't worked on car in a bit but that's definitely a little motivation
240zBoy
Wheels are on the car and got them wrapped in toyo proxes 4. Brakes are all done. Just waiting to get some help tuning my valves on mon or tuesday and to figure out a couple loose ends still mechanically. After that I will tackle my electrical while the dash is still loose from the speedo cable hook up. Really suprised on how nice the wheels look. They cleared fenders and front brakes with a 7mm spacer up front, but I won't know if they rub anywhere else until she runs. 240zBoy
Alright I have fixed quite a lot of loose ends, and valves are tuned. Had to get a new Brake Booster cause mine was leakin air. Thats all good, but now I have to fix the issue with my clutch master. ughh. Anyways that wont be to hard and from there its just that and my carb getting tuned and mechanically shes done. Here are some pictures of the wheels. Keep in mind there is still a lot of weight missing from the car so might get a bit lower than it is now and I am fine at its height now. Lower is always better though haha. So I got some stuff done.... - Valves tuned - I installed an e-fan from Summit - New Booster - New Plugs - Finished and installed strut bar - Wired up bunch of stuff, made a power block for 12v, switched 12v, and a ground to clean up my wiring - New SS Brake lines all around Edited February 4, 2011 by 240zBoy
zsteelman
You know I really like your strut bar. What size tubing did you build it out of? I like that you made it completely removable as well which allowed you to place your vinyl back onto the towers. I am needing to build one to mount my harnesses too and do not feel comfortable wrapping them on one that ONLY connects to the strut bolts, having it down to the floor is nice as well. I am needing to build one to mount my harnesses too and do not feel comfortable wrapping them on one that ONLY connects to the strut bolts, having it down to the floor is nice as well. I believe all the tubing is one inch and the sheet metal I used was a little shy of 1/4in. The cap for the strut tower at the top does not work for me but whatever. All I did was drill hole through my mounting point behind the vinyl. Put the vinyl on and then strut tower. Poked a hole through then slid the bolt through. 240zBoy
Time for another update. Finally nearing the end. Have a couple interior things to do later on but for now it is done. Matched the corbeau's with a 4pt set of nrg camlocks. Chopped up the 95 corbeau mustang rails it came with to get the seats in. No rub now but no one taller than about 6' 1'' can drive but passenger side has a bit more room. I'm 5' 11'' though so me likey.haha. Also cut and installed universal carpet from Pep Boys and it came out awesome. Full Pioneer system installed with 4x6 in the back and 4in speakers in the doors. Also picked up a new passenger door and got that aligned much better than the other door. Here are some pictures to get a little taste of my vision coming to reality. 240zBoy
First Drive went not bad at all. Brakes need to be bled better for sure and it did not want to start after stalled going into reverse. Quite a bit of exhaust fumes in cabin to but I guess thats a common almost unbeatable problem. Not to bad though in general. This beast has some nice torque at only half throttle haha. Stereo sound stopped working but I beleieve its going into safe mode with a shorted speaker wire. Not going to worry right now as my body and paint guy will be getting my lady in about 2 or 3 days. Edited May 23, 2011 by 240zBoy
240zBoy
Bad news first, Lost my lil buddie named Beau "Yellow lab" I showed earlier the other day. R.I.P Anyways, the car is a completely different story. My Z was sent over to a guy I was recommended to and he has been awesome dealing with so far and suppose to be done by tomorrow. But he even went all the way to take it down to bare metal for me cause the old paint was coming off in chunks. Painting it a white he let me pick out and when I get it back I got a list of little things I need to knock out. That includes bumpers, maybe putting on a different wheel spacer on FR as I think its causing a slight wobble, and list goes on. Hopefully I can get it all done in a day or two because friday is my last day of high school ever and I would love it hit that date. 240zBoy
Well I have been working a lot and went on vacation but the car is painted. Starting to re assemble it all and fix some minor issues. Should be done by the end of the week. Looks sweet but needs a couple touch ups and to get 5th gear fixed. Nothin serious though, getting anxious haha
