cockerstar
Hey guys, I'm trying to have a transmission shipped to me, and was wondering what you guys have used in the past to ship large/heavy items. I've been looking at shipping via freight, but not having a loading dock/forklift on one end nearly triples the shipping cost! I do have a forklift and a loading dock on my end, so that makes things a bit easier. For the price I'm being quoted, I could drive down to Salt Lake and pick it up myself... So, what have you done to ship engines/transmissions in the past?
dan5138
Have you tried Yellow Freight yet? Not entirely sure if they operate outside of CA but I could get a pallet anywhere within CA for about $100 (forklifts at both ends though). Or you could have the shipper split the tranny and send it via UPS in about 3 boxes. Though I imagine doing this would cost in the neighborhood of about $150 XD. cockerstar
I haven't tried yellow freight yet. I'll definitely look into them. Right now, $150 isn't too bad at all. I had it down to $126, but that was assuming loading docks on both ends. I also hadn't thought of splitting the trans up either. It was very recently rebuilt, so I'm kind of hesitant about that route.
kiwi303
Try depot to depot? I've had trans shipped from the sellers closest depot to my closest depot thn just rolled up in a van and had the parts loaded into the van by forklift at the depot. johnc
I use BAX Global for all my freight shipments. They were bought by DB Schenker but the same folks at BAX are still running things here in the US.
waddiejohn
Why do you need a fork lift for a transmission?
