zxryan
hi guys im ryan, i live in australia, and something ive noticed while reading and searching this forum is that the comon octane rating in america is like 91 or the such. in australia our minimal is llike 93, and we generaly have a choice of 95 or even 98. this intrest me because i plan on turbo'ing my N/A, and since the turbo modle didn't come out down here i wasn't planing on changing much besides the fuel injectiong and timing, so leaivng compresion the same. so is it that we have much higher ratings down here in australia or that thiers some difference in mesuaring so they end up the same any way? kinda like thiers two different types of gallons(which confuses me anyway). many thanks ryan
turbojohnny
well in new york state most gas stations offer a range of 87, 89, 91, or 93 octane. most offer only 3 out of the four ratings, i think 87 isn't seen much anymore though. there are a few stations here and there that offer 100 octane"race fuel" as for a difference in measuring octane ratings, i don't think there is. freakshow
I have seen a couple of threads asking this question. There is a difference. If you do some searching (might take a while), you will find the answer. But it was something like U.S. rating 89 being the same as the lowest rated Aus. octane. Look around, you will find your answer.
