chrismiller5157
I have sent my wife's 280zx non turbo to the shop an they are putting a MSA head's, an MSA exhast an some other stuff also {trany, power steering, oil pan, rear brake's, MSA cam} they said that the last bolt is probly going to brake {the gasket it leaking on the last port next to the fire wall an the motor mounts are broken they say the last one almost always brake's} an they will have to pull the head off to get the bolt out, an that i should just do a valve job while the head is out. they want $225.00 to send it to the machine shop. so the QUESTION is, is this a good price? thank's. FlatBlack
Might want to read these, you can pull that exhaust stud out yourself fairly easily. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=149606&highlight=broken+head+stud http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=148984&highlight=broken+head+stud I guess 225 for a valve job seems reasonable. Are they going to deck the head as well? I really don't think pulling the head in necessary for that, but you stated they are installing an MSA cam, and the head will need to come off for that. Challenger
Same thing. As Mat mentioned theyll remove the head anyways to replace the cam which will make removing the bolt easier. Also what do you mean by MSA head? Header?
chrismiller5157
ok thanks for the info. well im buying the headers used {$75.00}, i was told that thay are long headers an they were from MSA.....iv sent them to get coated.
bradley.porto
why do you have to remove the head to replace the cam? isn't it an OHC engine? tell me what I am missing. well everything you said seems like a great price to me. woldson
Same thing. As Mat mentioned theyll remove the head anyways to replace the cam which will make removing the bolt easier. Also what do you mean by MSA head? Header? The valve job will require the head to be removed. Cam can be done without removing head.
Challenger
Well I was assuming youd take MSA's and Schneider's advice and replace the other components as well. Springs, lash pads, rocker arms. Personally Id pull the head to do those...
woldson
Ahhh. I too would pull a head on upgrades, just a good idea.
