J240ZTurbo
can someone please post some info and pictures on how to install a rear battery on a 240z?
Guest Rolling Parts
Don't have a picture with me, but it was easy. The battery is held down in passenger side hatch area between the wheel well and tail lights with a couple of "J" bolts that go through the floor. The (-) goes from the battery to one of the 3 bolts on top of the shock tower. The (+) is the only interesting part; it's heavy gauge wire that runs from the battery under the passenger carpet and through the passenger side firewall. hoov100
why not run it in above the wheel well, run it under the carpet, then have it exit out with the main harness through the firewall?
Guest Rolling Parts
why not run it in above the wheel well, run it under the carpet, then have it exit out with the main harness through the firewall? It adds to the length and it's harder to cover up. In my install I just ran it under the carpet all the way.
hoov100
harder to cover up? running a 1-2 gauge wire next to the tail light harness is hardly going to need any "covering up" as opposed to just throwing it under the carpet.
jhm
Juan- Another option for your consideration....my rear battery is mounted in front of the passenger-side rear wheel well. With my rollbar, this turned out to be the most secure mounting location. You can't be too careful when mounting your battery -- in the event of a hard panic-stop or (heaven forbid) a head-on collision, your battery will become a 40 lb projectile if not securely mounted. NEVER NEVER NEVER rely on the canvas strap that comes with the battery box; it will do NOTHING to hold your battery in place. (Saw a guy do that once with his trunk-mounted battery, and the strap just popped like a cheap balloon the first time he had to brake hard.) I used the original battery platform in the engine compartment as a platform for my hot post -- used a battery firewall terminal here. Places like Summit and JEGS offer several kits at decent prices. One word of advice I'd offer is to use a good quality sealed battery like the Optima. Costs a little more up front, but a good investment over the long term. Good luck with your project and happy motoring. jhm Edited August 10, 2009 by jhm completeness
Iceman
Mine is in the same spot as JHM's. It was mounted with one of the metal rectangle hold-downs and kept the battery in place following a mild t-bone with a 4-wheel drift into and over an island, and then down an embankment. (Not that I recommend that as a test ) The (+) cable runs along where the floor meets the door-frame on the passenger side, and the ground has a custom frame bolt location for Ground (prev owner did all of this). I'm probably going to put one of those jumbo battery disconnect switches for a little bit more theft-resistance. JHM suggested a sealed battery, but this is actually a MUST! piston
the only thing i hate about this is having to install a turn off switch on the outside of the vehicl to run at he track. at least thats what the track officials told me last couple years ago.
