sta z
this is a stock L28 after a rebuild. does the timing look correct? thanks
cygnusx1
Looks right to me from where I am sitting. Make sure you are at TDC on the #1 cylinder as well (it looks like you are but confirm it). It looks like you are using the old timing chain or is it a new one?
MAG58
Looks right. The little slit on top, where does it line up? If the V notch on the pulley and the little slit on the retainer line up you're in business.
bigeZ
I just did this last week. Make sure the cam sprocket is in the number one hole on the cam it self. Also look through the sprocket and align the sprockets small groove with the small grove on the head. Also if you havent done so already, replace all bolts that will be torqued. I learned the hard way and had many bolts that hold my front cover break off. Not a fun fix.
Noddle
Also if you havent done so already, replace all bolts that will be torqued. I learned the hard way and had many bolts that hold my front cover break off. Not a fun fix. maybe you were tightening them to tight ?, never broke a front cover bolt, just don't use a 12 inch bar, I like to use my little 10 / 12 mm ring spanner. or if you have one of those little (6 inch) tension wrenches Nigel
sta z
What if my notch on the cam gear and the head look like this... -v kind of close together but not a perfect dead on.
Xnke
The notch and dash are not supposed to be dead on perfect, it should be "-V". The chain should be replaced, or the cam sprocket moved to the next hole, when the V and the notch are "V-".
